Workplace Assessments: Measuring for Success

Skill and technical competency are important success factors in any role; however, today many employers are telling us, “Give me someone with the right attitude and work ethic, and I can train them to do the job.”

Business magnate and Virgin Group founder Richard Branson writes, “There is nothing more important for a business than hiring the right team. If you get the perfect mix of people working for your company, you have a far greater chance of success.”

But how do you determine if a candidate has the right attitude for your company or is the right fit for a particular role?

CCWA offers a variety of assessment tools that determine how key employees look at problems, solve them, work with others, and react to pressure. Classes and workshops help participants understand their preferences or tendencies and how to adapt to working with others. With most assessments, there are no right or wrong answers. In fact, learning to exploit differences can enhance both individual and team performance. According to Branson, “Somebody who thinks a little differently can help to see problems as opportunities and inspire creative energy within a group.”

Sometimes organizations do need to know that job candidates have a certain skill level. In those cases, CCWA assesses for and offers the Virginia Career Readiness Certificate. This WorkKeys®-based credential is endorsed by the Governor of Virginia and has become a nationally-recognized best practice with over 30 states replicating this model. The credential certifies an individual’s skills in three core workplace competencies:

  • Locating Information
  • Applied Mathematics
