Become a Virginia Educator

If you're looking to switch or add a secondary career in teaching, EducateVA is for you. This is a fast track program for people looking for a practical, affordable route to becoming a teacher in the Commonwealth. The EducateVA Career Switcher program has prepared more than 1,800 teachers since 2004.

Courses are taught in a flexible format that includes a mix of online and in-person Saturday classes. This program does require additional prerequisites: a bachelor's degree, three or more years of full-time work experience, a PRAXIS Subject Assessment, specific to the content area you would like to teach and the Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment. These prerequisites ensure participants will be eligible for a license and can enter the classroom, upon completion of Level 1 – the 18-week coursework semester.
