Career Connect provides career development resources and employment support to Reynolds and Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) students. This fall, the team launched a free workshop series designed to help students build the skills and confidence needed to navigate the job search.
These workshops are held virtually and in-person at Reynolds’ Downtown and Parham Road covering topics like résumé building, career exploration, LinkedIn basics, interviewing skills, and more.
“It’s not enough to give students a degree or certification. We need to give them the skills they need to secure a job,” said Michelle Simmons, Career Readiness Specialist at Reynolds Community College.
When Simmons joined the Career Connect team, one of her goals was to develop a workshop series that would introduce students to essential career readiness skills early in their education or training.
Whether students are preparing to enter the workforce for the first time, changing careers, or looking to advance in their current field, the workshops offer practical guidance to help them take the next step. Students can learn how to highlight their skills and experience, make a strong impression on potential employers, and approach the job search with greater confidence.
Recognizing the diverse background of CCWA and Reynolds students means understanding that each student seeking Career Connect’s services bring a different level of work and life experience. The Career Connect team designed the workshop series to meet students where they are, providing support for a variety of career goals and professional development needs.
Simmons and the Career Connect team hope to expand their workshop series in the spring semester and include topics that address career development skills holistically such as, “The Power of Mentorship”, “Stress Management”, “Job Fair Survival Guide”, and more.
